Fathers - Wrestling with Your Angel (Pt. 9)

Wrestling with your Angel is a reality that no man can avoid. There are lessons that can only be learned through battle. Gen. 32:24-26 “This left Jacob all alone in the camp, and a man came and wrestled with him until the dawn began to break. (25) When the man saw that he could not win the match, he touched Jacob’s hip and wrenched it out of its socket. (26) Then the man said, Let me go, for the dawn is breaking.” Every man will wrestle with his angel. In short, men must discern that they wrestle with themselves. In other words, every man struggles with something. The revelation is that each man wrestles with himself. In short, every man faces some kind of challenge that requires intervention from God.

Please notice the context. First, it is night, which implies that men wrestle in their own darkness. Secondly, daybreak is near. No man wants to be exposed by the light. But the most important question is, who are you wrestling with? Remember that Jacob was wrestling with God. Like Jacob, we can wrestle our whole lives with the same issue until God Himself wrestles with us. When this happens, something is going to change, and this change does not come without a cost. The point is that men need to know they are wrestling with God, but also that they are wrestling with themselves. This will continue in our next blog, but until then, I challenge you to know why you are wrestling and with whom you are wrestling.
